Why Water
WATER FOR SUDAN
Water for South Sudan is an organization that helps improve the lives of many people in South Sudan. The organization does this by creating wells that allow the people of South Sudan to get water, this act changes their lives. The wells give sustainable and safe water to people who struggle due to a lack of water.
The creator of Water for South Sudan, Salva Dut was once a lost boy. He tracked for days across the country of Sudan. Upon finally arriving at a refugee camp in Ethiopia at 11 years old he lived with no family and grew up alone. A couple of years later the Ethiopian government broke down and soldiers forced people into the Gilo river by shooting at the refugees. Many died of the current, crocodiles, and the soldiers' guns. Salva witnessed men get swallowed up by crocodiles and boys died because of guns. Salva survived, he and thousands of other boys trecked to Kenya, about 1/3 of the boys died, Salva survived. Salva was chosen to go to America, Salva had never flown in a plane, he was amazed. Later he reunited with his father who nearly died of leaches in the gross water that he had been drinking for years, this inspired him to create Water for South Sudan.
